Recently, I was out of work for a medical reason, one that I had to alert my manager about. When I returned to work, I found out that she had told my co-workers why I was absent from work, in specific detail. My question is: did she violate HIPAA regulations and if so, am I able to sue? Her telling my co-workers has severely impacted my work efforts because many of my co-workers are keeping their distance from me.
