When a friend tells you a funny story but it's not funny, what do you do?

I try sometimes to fake laugh but if I'm totally honest sometimes I either can't be bothered to fake laugh because it requires to much effort or I don't think it will convince my friend and I'll end up by looking like a wierdo...
