Japanese Dumplings?? Contents?

I was going to ask about 'White round edible balls' that I keep seeing in animes but I just realized they are large dumplings. I was wondering what is often found inside these dumplings? In the anime the contents looks sort of light-brown ish. I know there's sweet dumplings as well but I mean the large white ones often with patterns.
